Damn Good.

  • 2 oz. Scotch
  • 1⁄2 oz. smoked Fernet Branca
  • 1oz. rose and raspberry simple syrup
  • 1⁄2 oz. Coca-Cola syrup
  • the juice of  1⁄2 small orange

Combine the Scotch, smoked Frenet Branca, Rose and Raspberry Syrup and and Coca-Cola Syrup, and fresh squeezed orange juice into a shaker filled with ice.  Shake vigorously, and strain into a chilled rocks glass with one big fat rock.   Garnish with  the peel of an orange and a Luxardo cherry.  Enjoy

Tonight’s cocktail features Fernet Branca, a bitter Italian digestive, that is smoked using a Smokeshow cocktail smoker.   Although similar to a #4 With a Smile (which uses Rye instead of Scotch and doesn’t include the orange juice or Rose Raspberry Syrup).  This is not that.   We just call it damn good. 

Rose & Raspberry Simple Syrup –

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1⁄2 cup  raspberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1⁄4 cup  dried rose petals and buds.  Just about any rose not sprayed with pesticide will work, but Rosa Damascena, Rugosa, and Floribunda  are noted as working expecially work.  These are often available where you buy tea.
Mix all of the ingredients into a small sauce pan and then dissolve the sugar over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.   Then cover and set aside to steep for another 5 minutes or so.  In terms of flavor the longer it sits the stronger the flavor.  

When finished strain the liquid into an air-tight container.
