Exuma – The Bahama’s

Most of the people I know, know at least one person who is both legitimately wealthy and given to extravagance. Maybe they are a good friend, maybe they are a friend of a friend, or maybe they aren’t exactly a friend at all, but someone who for whatever reason you know and occasionally includes you.

Through this acquaintance you are invited to places, granted access to events, or have experiences you otherwise very likely would not.  They are your Gatsby.

This particular Gatsby is a high school friend of my wife’s, and on the recent occasion of this Gatsby’s 50th birthday we found ourselves boarding a redeye from LAX to eventually arrive at a villa in Forbes Hill on Little Exuma a little after lunch the next day.

I’d never been to the Bahamas, or any island in the Caribbean, and other than impressions from a few movies, I had no idea what to expect.

First impressions; I’ve never seen or experienced such perfectly soft, pale sandy beaches or such amazingly blue water.  Not seawater anyway.

Our trip was only about 4 days long and limited to the Exumas, a chain of some 365+ islands and cays.

The tropic of Cancer runs through Little Exuma on the popular Cancer beach.
