It’s entertainment industry awards season and next up is the Grammy’s. While a number of prestigious awards programs have dealt with increasing controversy and debate over the system of merit used to determine who wins, none have been quite so full of vitrole and passion as the debate that rages over the Grammy’s.
If you’re asking yourself, “Who even cares?” Well that’s a fair question. Clearly the people in the music industry, but I think to really get a sense of the crux of this debate we really only to think back to our own opinions on music and our last conversation about the merits of this or that song, album, or singer within our own circle of audiophiles.
The suggest that there were likely some very strong opinions would almost be a sure bet.
Reflect further on those people who (and I’m sure you know at least one of them) who get really nuanced over the differently trending genres of music and can wax poetic in their diatribes on the topic.
So that’s why it matters. Because we’re people, and its music, and we care about this kind of stuff.
Having accepted this though the next logical question is “Who chooses and how?” Well that my people. We will now explore.
